During the '60s, England produced three great 'Steves'. There was Marriott, Winwood and perhaps the most underrated of the trio - Ellis.

In 1966 Steve Ellis answered an ad in Melody Maker for a singer for a 'young, image conscious' band. He got the job and the band became the Soul Survivors, ultimately changing their name to Love Affair. In this guise they had a string of hit singles including the Number 1, 'Everlasting Love'.

By 1968 they were established as a major act and Steve Ellis became something of a pop idol, famed not only for his deep-throated vocals but his unique mod hairstyle. In 1969, Steve signed to CBS Records as a solo artist, then formed the band Ellis before the group Widowmaker with Luther Grosvenor (aka Ariel Bender). After recording a few solo singles for Ariola, and with the onset of punk, Steve left the music business.

During the early-1990's Steve re-emerged on the music scene and linked up with a local outfit to become Steve Ellis' Love Affair. It is this line-up that recorded 'Edinburgh Live 95' which captures him at his best. During 1998 Steve teamed up with long-time friend Paul Weller with a single 'Step Inside Love' which they released in aid of NSPCC cahrity. In recent years teve has made regular guest live appearances at annual Small Faces convention and during spring 2001 he stole the show at the Steve Marriott Memorial Concert at London Astoria.
