SPLIT KNEE LOONS Loon Knee Tunes (SJPCD262)

Split Knee Loons

Those with long memories or 'in the know' will recognize this previously unreleased album as bizarre alter ego of the group GILLAN recorded in between the studio sessions for the HIT albums 'Mr Universe', Glory Road' and 'Future Shock'. The Split Knee Loons first appeared on the 'For Gillan Fans Only' limited edition 'Glory Road' LP

JOHN MCCOY, BERNIE TORME, COLIN TOWNS and JANICK GERS all perform along with hosts of 'special guests'

The band had previously only released one EP and this album is a very, very special insight into the world of GILLAN and perhaps today some decades later provides a clue as to what made that band so special.

Settle back for an unusual and humorous experience in the world of rock.

ARTHUR GUITAR, COSMO TOONS, ERNIE ORME, BLIND FRANK MELONHEAD, WAH, WAH WATKINS, JANET GRRRR, DICK UNDERPANTS, AYE MACFRANK and IGGY GUBBINS

Now released for the first time ever is the live concert performance from The Hammersmith Odeon on 14th October 1980 where the band took the audience by storm

On Disc 2 (DVD) is the concert in Edinburgh the following month which was recorded for Scottish TV where the band once again had the audience eating out of their hands.

Classic Rock from Gillan in their prime in both Sound & Vision.

Disc 2 (DVD) is a concert filmed in 2001 with numerous bonus features.

Now his third album recorded in 1999 is given its first major release having previously only been available from his own small label.

'Time To Think' is essentially an acoustic album in an ambient space (St Michaels Church, Summertown, Oxford) The music was interpreted by the talented musicians Mo had assembled who improvised melodically, kept perfect time and whilst doing all that, swing like the clappers!

Disc 1 (CD) was recorded at Montreux early in 1972 and captures the band at their tightest sadly this performance was only a few weeks before guitarist Harvey was tragically electrocuted during a sound check at The Wanage Ballroom, Swansea.

The band regrouped that year with JIMMY McCULLOCH playing guitar and in 1973 recorded an 'In Concert, Beat Workshop' concert for German TV which is featured on Disc 2 (DVD9) and includes bonus features including interviews with Maggie and COLIN ALLEN.

COLOSSEUM Reunion Concert Cologne 1994 (SJPCD275)

(2 disc set -1CD and 1 DVD (NTSC all regions)

Colosseum

On June 24th 1994 COLOSSEUM played their first concert together for 23 years. This release was filmed and recorded some 4 months later at the bands second concert that year in Cologne.

Jon Hiseman said “Despite many requests from fans and promoters over the past couple of decades, I never seriously considered reforming the original COLOSSEUM. But the release of all the albums on CD in the early 90's was extremely successful and generated a lot of new interest in the band.

When Dave, Dick, Clem and Chris ganged up on me in 1993 it became clear there was no escape. A date was set and I found Mark in America and we all met up in my studio on June 17th 1994 and I gave the count in for “Those About To Die”. We played as if the band had
never been apart”!

BOOK CHARTS RISE AND RISE OF ANGEL AIR

To celebrate Angel Air's 10th Anniversary a new book by James McCarraher was published in 2007.

Angel Air

The book details the development of the label, its philosophy, and lists all releases with reviews.

Further information:  www.angelair.co.uk/book_catalogue.htm

'Angel Air is 10' is a welcome celebration of the label's first ten years and for any rocker of a certain age, and with an eye for trivia, makes essential reading. Where else could we read about Affinity, an early jazz rock stomping ground for the great Mo Foster, Warhorse (debut album on the Vertigo 'swirl' label) and what happened to Bobby Harrison of seventies funk rockers Snafu? Author James McCarraher has brought together the 200-plus label catalogue, prefacing each release with an essay culled mainly from the original liner notes.

David Randall, www.getreadytorock.com

...a celebration of the label rather than a detailed account of the every day ins and outs of a small independent record company...'Angel Air is 10' is as much a reference book as anything else.

More Black Than Purple (June 2007)

REVIEWS...

Don't forget you can read a selection of album reviews on the website from a wide range of music magazines...
